Theater Scholarship Application

 

Application due January 5, 2014*

Steps to apply for a Theater Scholarship and
receive an on-campus interview

 
1)Apply and be accepted for admission at CSB/SJU.
2)Submit the online Theater Scholarship Application (scroll down to complete application).
3)Have a theater teacher complete the Art, Music and Theater Recommendation Form.
4)Upload your résumé. You will be able to do so when completing the application below. The résumé should include all theatrical experience and other pertinent information.
5)Upload your essay. You will be able to do so when completing the application below. The typed, 2-page essay should reflect on one of your greatest involvements in theater throughout high school and describe your involvement, successes, and challenges with the show or project.  Let your essay expound on not only your past involvement but also your vision and goals of how you plan to be involved in theater at CSB/SJU.
 
  • If you directed a play, describe your production concept and the ways in which you worked with your crew and actors to express it.
  • If you were involved in set design, describe the process and creativity you used to design the set for the production.
  • If you were involved in costume design, describe the process and creativity you used to design the costumes for the production.
  • If you were involved in lighting, describe the process and creativity you used to design the lighting production.

On-Campus Interview Process

  • Once you have been accepted for admission at CSB/SJU and all of the above steps have been completed, the date and time of your interview will be confirmed by email.
  • There will be no acting auditions at the Theater Scholarship interview.
  • The on-campus interview must be completed before a student can be considered for the scholarship.
  • Fine Arts Scholarship Days are February 1 and 8. Out-of-state students may choose to come on the March 15-17 National Fly-in Weekend and interview at that time. Students also invited to interview for our Trustees' Scholarship may interview in the afternoon on those scholarship days. If you are an out-of-state student and the March 15-17 National Fly-in Weekend does not work with your schedule, please contact your Admission Representative to make arrangements for a different weekend.
     

Compliance Requirements

  • $1,000 Awards: Each academic year, take a 2-or-more-credit theater course or participate in productions offered by the CSB/SJU Theater Department.
  • $1,500-$4,000 Awards: Each semester, take a 2-or-more-credit theater course or participate in productions offered by the CSB/SJU Theater Department.

Please note

  • Students cannot be considered for Art, Music and Theater Scholarships until they have been accepted for admission.
  • This application is to be completed by students who plan a continued involvement in theater.
  • Students do not need to major in theater to be considered for a Theater Scholarship.
  • Current CSB/SJU students are not eligible to apply for Fine Arts Scholarships.
  • Students must comply with the Theater Scholarship requirements in order to maintain the Theater Scholarship for four years at CSB/SJU.
  • Students may apply for more than one Fine Arts Scholarship; however, if they are awarded more than one, they may accept only one of them.
