Theater Scholarship Application

Application due January 15, 2016*

Steps to apply for a Theater Scholarship and
Receive an On-campus Interview

1)Apply and be accepted for admission at CSB/SJU.
2)Submit the online Theater Scholarship Application (scroll down to complete application).
3)Have a theater teacher complete the Art, Music and Theater Recommendation Form.
4)Upload your résumé. You will be able to do so when completing the application below. The résumé should include all theatrical experience and other pertinent information.
5)Upload your essay. You will be able to do so when completing the application below. The typed, 2-page essay should reflect on one of your greatest involvements in theater throughout high school and describe your involvement, successes, and challenges with the show or project.  Let your essay expound on not only your past involvement but also your vision and goals of how you plan to be involved in theater at CSB/SJU.

  • If you directed a play, describe your production concept and the ways in which you worked with your crew and actors to express it.
  • If you were involved in set design, describe the process and creativity you used to design the set for the production.
  • If you were involved in costume design, describe the process and creativity you used to design the costumes for the production.
  • If you were involved in lighting, describe the process and creativity you used to design the lighting production.

On-Campus Interview Process

  • Once you have been accepted for admission at CSB/SJU and all of the above steps have been completed, the date and time of your interview will be confirmed by email.
  • There will be no acting auditions at the Theater Scholarship interview.
  • The on-campus interview must be completed before a student can be considered for the scholarship. The on-campus interview dates are February 7 and February 21.
  • Out-of-state students may choose to attend the March 14 - 16 National Fly-in Weekend and interview at that time. If the March 14 - 16 Fly-in Weekend does not work, the March 28 - 30 Fly-in Weekend is an alternate option. Students are encouraged to contact their Admission Representative to make arrangements for a different weekend if the March 14 - 16 or March 28 - 30 dates do not work.
  • Students interviewing for our Trustees' Scholarship can schedule their Theater interview to be held the same day as the Trustees' interview.
